Searching for Shanti

Now that I look back, the origins of what I'm calling Samsara are closely linked to a long-term fascination I've had with India. As a much younger woman I travelled extensively and came to the understand the value of travel and the barriers that can be broken simply by the understanding we gain from travelling. But I didn't get to India; so it sat on my personal backburner. For years, all my passwords contained the word Samsara and I knew that one day I would get to experience all the cultural, historical and culinary richness for which India is renowned.

Eventually I made it to India and I wasn't the least bit disappointed. Sensory overload is surely, an expression crafted by someone who had India in mind. By virtue of an association, I formed in Kolkata with the not-for profit CRAWL organisation, I gained some life experiences I'll never forget and a sense of purpose for which I will forever be grateful. Indeed, gratitude is one of India's main teachings to me and working alongside some remarkable women - caring for some of the most forgotten street children in one of earth's harshest urban environments - I was able to truly grasp everything for which I am grateful. And it was here that the seeds of Samsara were sewn.

My passion for India and many trips has led me to love the richness and heritage of Indian textiles, specifically those crafted n the famous, pink walled city of Jaipur.  It is my hope that by sharing a carefully curated selection of the homewares I may inspire you to shop and travel more consciously.

I am not religious and I am not spiritual but India some how sucked me into its vortex again and again.

"India, it's rich and poor, spiritual and material, cruel and kind, angry but peaceful, ugly and beautiful, and smart and stupid. It's all the extremes. India defies understanding...! India in some ways is like a fun hall of mirrors where you can see both sides of each contradiction sharply and there is no easy escape to understanding" Sarah Macdonald
